WANT A COPY -- A recent edition of the University of Virginia Law School Political Law Journal carried an article that I authored. Title: "When Political Contributions Become An Act of Civil Disobedience." If you want a copy, give me a call or send me an email request.

GOOD POLITICAL READ -- "Intern" by Bonnie Hearn Hill. She's a professor at UC Fresno. It's a tale of a California State Senator and a missing intern who worked for him. Story probes the lives of all those involved - the Senator, his wife, the intern's parents and friends, Senator's political supporters, etc. Light read. Quick. Fun.

THE LEGAL FRONT -- The state Fair Political Practices Commission and the plaintiffs in the federal law suit against the slate provisions of Prop. 34 have reached a settlement. Several months ago, Judge Lawrence Karlton enjoined enforcement of the provisions on first amendment grounds. The parties have agreed to make the injunction permanent and call of the legal wars. In the meantime, a legislative solution that would return slate regulatory laws to the pre-Prop. 208 status has been introduced.

RUMORS -- Rumors are the life blood of the political world and sometimes it seems anything we do creates fertile ground. For instance, I have told a number of people I'm scaling back my candidate campaign business to do no more than one or two campaigns at a time. That turned into a rumor that I am retiring. NOT ON YOUR LIFE. I am neither shy nor retiring. I'm still here. I'm just going to be more selective about which campaigns I take on. The reason is simply that there are a few other things I want to do with my time. I STILL LOVE A GOOD CAMPAIGN.

THANKS, RICK-- Rock Orlov of the L.A. Daily News this week gave a nice plug to the novel and the cookbook I've completed and am shopping around to agents and publishers.

DEFINITION -- Political reform = something everyone wants but no one knows how to do without shredding the constitutional rights to free speech, free assembly and redress of grievances.
